INTRODUCTION

Introduction (Anthony):

Team five has been given the opportunity to explore Shoprite while learning about its business and how information systems have given them a competitive advantage. Two of our team members have either worked for or are currently working for Shoprite. Through their expertise and knowledge, we have been able to gain extensive information, allowing for us to craft our analysis on the supermarket chain.   


Purpose (Chris):

Our purpose in this project is to show the inner workings of one of the largest Supermarket chains in the Metropolitan area. While learning about Shoprite, we will examine how it has utilized information systems to give it a competitive advantage. Armed with this information, we will then offer our recommendation on how Shoprite can work to improve upon its existing information system.  


Company Information (Chris):

ShopRite Supermarket consists of 50 member owned stores, 275 franchise outlets and 1068 corporate locations. All of these spans over 6 states on the East Coast being Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. All of these locations employ over 50,000 employees across the states. ShopRite has an outstanding 20 million consumer base who are loyal customers to the franchise. Within ShopRite they provide their own Pharmaceutical Department, including health nutritionists. As well as a large number of Shop From Home Sections that complete online orders and delivery for customers.


Company Contact (Chris):

Store Manager: Ken Lowenstien, Store manager for 4 years at ShopRite of Garwood. His job is to effectively direct and supervise all functions and activities of the store and its Associates to achieve the Organization's goals like sales, profit, Customer Experience, and Associate Engagement. Throughout his daily schedule he is responsible for any issues that goes on in the store.
